How the life path number is calculated
This tool uses the Pythagorean full-sum method, the most common convention in the Chinese-speaking world, in three steps:
- Add every digit of the date: 1977-06-20 → 1+9+7+7+0+6+2+0 = 32
- If the sum has two digits, add those again: 3+2 = 5
- Stop and keep the result if 11, 22 or 33 appears along the way (see master numbers below)
| Birthday | Reduction | Life path |
|---|---|---|
| 1977-06-20 | 32 → 5 | 5 |
| 1990-07-29 | 37 → 10 → 1 | 1 |
| 1991-10-01 | 22 | 22 (master) |
| 1985-11-26 | 33 | 33 (master) |
| 1576-01-27 | 29 → 11 | 11 (master) |
Note: the birthday number (the day, reduced) does not stop at master numbers — day 29 → 2+9=11 → 1+1=2 — a different rule from the life path number.
Master numbers 11 / 22 / 33
When 11, 22 or 33 appears during reduction it is kept as a master number instead of being reduced to a single digit, and labeled with the base digit it also carries:
| Master | Keywords | Carries |
|---|---|---|
| 11 | Intuition · Spirit · Inspiration | 2 |
| 22 | Building · Vision · Grounding | 4 |
| 33 | Mentor · Devotion · Healing | 6 |
Master numbers occur far less often than ordinary digits and are traditionally read as an intensified form of their base number.
Reading the nine-grid chart: circles, lines and gaps
- Circles: the innate digits (birthday digits excluding 0) + talent digits (the two digits of the full sum) + the life path digit are counted into the 1-9 grid. More circles mean stronger energy in that number; counts above three show a ×N badge.
- Active lines: a line lights up when all three of its cells have circles — eight lines in total.
| Line | Name | Line | Name |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3-6-9 | Wisdom | 1-5-9 | Achievement |
| 1-4-7 | Intuition | 3-5-7 | Social |
| 1-2-3 | Art | 2-5-8 | Emotional |
| 4-5-6 | Organization | 7-8-9 | Power |
- Missing numbers: digits with zero circles. They mark traits that are less prominent — room to grow, not bad luck.
Example, 1977-06-20: the digits 7 and 2 each carry two circles (strongest energy); 3, 6, 9, 1 and 5 all present, lighting the Wisdom line among others; 4 and 8 are missing.
Birthday, talent and zodiac numbers
| Metric | Rule | Example (1977-06-20) |
|---|---|---|
| Birthday number | Day reduced to one digit (no master stop) | 20 → 2 |
| Talent numbers | Digits of the full sum | 32 → 3, 2 |
| Zodiac number | Zodiac ordinal reduced (Capricorn 10→1, Aquarius 11→2, Pisces 12→3) | Gemini → 3 |
The zodiac number comes from the month-day boundary table — the same twelve-fold split used by popular astrology.
What is triangle stacking
Life Code school offers another mainstream algorithm: the reduced day, reduced month, head-of-year sum and tail-of-year sum form the base; pairs add upward layer by layer, and the apex is that school’s number. For 1967-06-25: day 2+5=7, month 6, year 1+9=10→1 and 6+7=13→4; second layer 7+6=13→4 and 1+4=5; apex 4+5=9. This page shows both conventions side by side — they can disagree; this site follows the full-sum method, with the triangle for comparison only.

FAQ
Is there any science behind numerology?
Numerology traces back to the number mysticism of the Pythagoreans and belongs to popular culture, not science. Treat it as a fun lens for self-reflection — results here are for entertainment only.
Can I use my lunar (Chinese calendar) birthday?
No. Following Western numerology convention, the calculator takes solar (Gregorian) dates only. Convert a lunar birthday to Gregorian before entering it.
Why did I get 11, 22 or 33?
Those are the master numbers. When 11, 22 or 33 appears during reduction it is kept as-is and double-labeled with the single digit it also carries: 11 carries 2, 22 carries 4, 33 carries 6.
Why does another site give me a different number?
Two methods dominate: the full-sum method (adding every digit of the date — used here, and most common in the Chinese-speaking world) and the grouping method (reducing year, month and day separately before summing); a few sites use triangle stacking. This page shows the triangle result alongside for comparison.
Are missing numbers bad luck?
Not at all. A missing number simply has zero circles in the grid — that energy is less prominent, with room to grow. No fortune meaning is attached.
Where did the zeros in my birthday go?
Zero has no cell in the grid and never enters the count, but it does join the addition — in 2000-01-01, both zeros count toward the sum.
Is my birthday uploaded anywhere?
No. Every calculation runs locally in your browser — no network calls, no uploads, no traces.
